Near enough to the UK for a short break, but far enough to be in the heart of rural France and to get those all important extra degrees of warmth. We are in the ancient province of the Perche in the department of Orne, Basse Normandie, near the lovely mediaeval town of Bellême (5 mins) and half an hour from Le Mans.
The 2 two bedroomed Normandy cottage gites, available together or separately, are in a farmhouse renovation near the village of Igé. The setting is very tranquil and pretty. The farm (1797) was said to be a gift from Napoleon to a retiring soldier. Made of limestone and oak, the building has original beams, floor tiles and other features. The half dozen other houses in our hamlet date from the same period, making the surroundings very attractive.
The things we think you will enjoy:
-wild life and nature: the hares, deer, red squirrels. Hedgerows, orchards, forests. birds e.g. redstarts, woodpeckers, buzzards and falcons, owls, goldcrests. flowers e.g. wild orchids, violets, cowslips, campanula etc
